Formerly, Leader - Community Specialist Practice Programme
Oxford Brookes University, now at Age Concern/Help the Aged

During my nursing career I have worked within different parts of the UK, as a district nurse, community practice teacher, manager and educator within primary care.

Throughout this time, my particular experience and interest has been in meeting the needs of vulnerable people and their carers at home, for example older people, people with long term conditions, palliative care, or end-of-life needs, as well as caring for those with acute healthcare needs at home.

I now work for Age Concern/Help the Aged as a flexicarer for older people with mental health needs. Sensitive, person-centred compassionate practice has always been, for me, the essence of nursing.

Having had the opportunity to co-author our book ‘Compassion and Caring in Nursing’ with my colleague, Claire, this has given me the chance to examine the truly positive impact compassionate care has on patients and clients and the opportunity to share this with others.
