Yvonne Sawbridge
Director of Quality and Performance
South Strattfordshire PCT
Over 25 years experience in the NHS in a variety of settings – both Acute and Community Trusts, and within a Family Health Services Authority and District Health Authority.
Qualified as a Health Visitor in 1986 and worked in both inner city and rural areas. Worked as a lecturer in a College of Further Education for a year. Progressed to locality manager and then held a variety of managerial posts, not all of them in nursing. The most different one (for me) was as Directorate Manager of Pathology services in City Hospital, Birmingham.
Became Head of Nursing (Medicine) at Heartlands & Solihull NHS Trust, which reaffirmed my love of nursing.
Returned to primary care in September 2001, as Director of Nursing. Roles and responsibilities changed numerous times within that post. Moved to Solihull Care Trust and became Director of Commissioning & Redesign and when the reorganisation began, I secured my current post of Director of Quality & Nursing & Exec Nurse. Responsible for quality, children, cancer and end of life care. My role also includes quality of patient experience and finding ways to ensure this happens.
I was also the NHS Alliance Nurse Lead in March 2004 (2 days per month), for 2 years and remain Vice-Chair. The Alliance is the major representative organisation for primary care, and seeks to proactively influence national policy and implementation.
